Anti-aliasing

The process of making straight or curved lines in digital photos appear less'staircased' or'stepped' (also known as 'jaggies'), which is produced by the fact that the individual pixels that comprise an image are separate blocks of color. The procedure can be used to smooth diagonal or curved lines.
