Carol Allen-Storey is an award-winning documentary photographer from New York, now based in London. Her work focuses on complex humanitarian and social issues, particularly the experiences of women, children, and communities affected by conflict, poverty, disease, displacement, and disability. In 2009, she was appointed a UNICEF ambassador for photography. She graduated with distinction from the Master Photography programme at Central Saint Martins and has worked with organisations including UNICEF, Save the Children, Comic Relief, International Alert, and the Elton John AIDS Foundation. She is a member of the Association of Photographers in London, where she served on the board for six years, and judges international photography competitions.
Her book Defying the Myth (GOST Books, 2026) grew out of a Save the Children assignment in 2014 and follows three families raising children with severe disabilities over more than a decade. It combines her black-and-white photographs with poems, drawings, and writing by the mothers, siblings, and children, and all proceeds she receives from the book go to the three mothers. In 2024 she won Gold in the Association of Photographers Project Award. (Website, Instagram, Facebook)
