Share Your Picture Stories
In an era where the rapid consumption of single, fleeting images on social media platforms has become the norm, we yearn for a return to storytelling that is deliberate, deep, and deliberate. It's got me pondering the value of taking a step back to appreciate photography with a bit more depth, like in the old days with photo essays in magazines. So, I'm rolling out a new monthly feature on our blog aimed at doing just that.
A New Stage for Visual Storytellers
I'm inviting you to submit a photography essay - a series of 10-15 connected images that tell a story or explore a concept. It's an open invitation to express something deeper through your photography, beyond just single, standalone shots.
How to Submit Your Photography Essay
Submission Period: Now until the end of November 2024.
April theme: Open. We're looking for work that is cohesive and tells a story or explores a concept deeply. How do your images connect? What narrative or theme do they collectively unveil? Totally up to you. The main idea is that your images should work together to say something more.
Your Steps:
Images: Select 10-15 of your photos that tell a story or convey an idea. Make sure they flow well together.
Narrative: Add some text to go along with your images. It can be captions or an overall essay. (Don’t worry if English isn't your first language or if you're not confident in your writing skills. We can help edit or even translate.) 300 - 600 words. ( your narrative can include: Theme and Purpose, Inspiration and Origin, Photographic Process, Stories Behind the Images, Impact and Reception, Photographer’s Reflections, Visual and Emotional Journey, Cultural or Historical Context, Technical Details)
Latest essays:
About You: A brief bio would be great, just a few lines about you and your photography. Plus, share your social media handles or website link so fellow photographers can explore more of your work. You can send a photo of you.
Sending It Over: Send the text to the info@aboutphotography.blog (Subject Photo essay - YOUR ESSAY NAME) and upload your images here.
Cost: There's no fee to submit. This is all about offering a space for deeper engagement with photography. If you want to support this website you the youtube channel please subscribe here (it is free). You might also consider becoming a channel member. It is appreciated but not required.
It's About Sharing, Not Competing
This isn't a contest. It's more about giving space to those broader ideas and narratives you've been carrying around, offering a contrast to the fleeting nature of typical social media posts.

A Thoughtful Approach
I'm looking forward to seeing the stories and concepts you bring to the table. This is about giving your photography a different kind of platform, one where depth and narrative get their due alongside the visuals.
