Claire Rosen is an award-winning artist known for imaginative photography at the intersection of art, history and nature. Her hallmark images show animals in fantastical, human-like settings. Her still lifes show lush flowers in a classical painterly tradition. Early influences include Beatrix Potter, natural history museums and the Dutch still life tradition. She works with live animals. Her work invites viewers to reflect on our relationship with the natural world.
She graduated in 2006 with a BFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Early in her career, Forbes twice named her to its Best 30 Under 30 list for Art and Design. Her work has appeared in Smithsonian Magazine, National Geographic, The Guardian and The Washington Post.
Her first monograph, Birds of a Feather, was published by Warwick Editions and Workshop Arts in 2025. It has 208 pages and gathers more than one hundred bird portraits made over ten years. Each bird is paired with a historical pattern. Smithsonian named it one of the Top 10 Photo Books of 2025. She is also the author of IMAGINARIUM: The Process Behind the Pictures.
Rosen lives with her family at Warwick Furnace Farm in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The historic property is now a lavender farm. It holds her studio, a gallery and an artist residency program.
