David Cruz is a photographer based in Los Angeles. He works under the name The Drunk Wedding Photographer.
Cruz was born in Oaxaca, Mexico. His family moved to Los Angeles in early 1993. He studied photography at East Los Angeles College.
He photographs weddings in a documentary style, only on Kodak 35mm film.
His long-term project Semiotic Nights shows Los Angeles at night. He began it in 2006, after he moved to the high desert area outside the city. He first used a Nikon D200. In early 2016 he returned to the project and shot it on Ilford black and white 35mm film with a Nikon N75. The work was shown twice in a curated student exhibition at the Vincent Price Art Museum.
Cruz says the goal is not to tell a new story of Los Angeles. He wants to keep telling his own lived experience of the city.
