Jens Krauer is a street and documentary photographer based in Zurich. For more than ten years he has walked through cities such as New York, Istanbul, Paris, Kyiv and Hong Kong, looking for brief moments of gesture, light and closeness between people. He has also made documentary work in Ukraine, about a volunteer battalion on the Donbas front line and about displaced people in Lviv.
His first book, In Plain Sight: Candid Urban Encounters (Kehrer Verlag, 2024), brings together 73 duotone photographs from ten years of street photography, with texts by Chris Gampat, Stella Kramer and Jamel Shabazz. While working on it, he kept a folder of one hundred pictures, replacing one whenever a better one came in. The final selection was cut from 120 images to 73.
His photographs have been exhibited in Europe and the United States. He is a Leica photographer and teaches workshops on street photography at the Leica Akademie.
