Mark Power

Mark Power is a British photographer based in Brighton, UK. He was born in 1959 and studied painting before he turned to photography. He joined Magnum Photos as a nominee in 2002 and became a full member in 2007.

He worked on editorial and charity commissions for about ten years. From 1992 he taught at the University of Brighton, and he was Professor of Photography there until 2017. During these years he moved towards long-term personal projects. They now sit next to large commissions in the industrial sector.

Power has published 14 books. They include The Shipping Forecast (1996), about the language of daily maritime weather reports, and Superstructure (2000), about the building of the Millennium Dome in London. Good Morning, America is an ongoing project. Four volumes have come out between 2018 and 2023.

FASHION (GOST Books, 2025) brings together photographs made over 27 years in 23 countries, mostly on commission. They were taken at construction sites, factories, quarries and shipyards. The book has no captions or dates. Power sequenced the pictures by colour, form and light.
