Stephanie Duprie Routh

Stephanie Duprie Routh is a photographer and writer based in Texas. Her work combines photography with text, physical interventions, and different forms of storytelling, often exploring womanhood, identity, memory, and the character of a place. She has exhibited in the United States, Japan, Italy, Spain, and India, and her photographs are held in collections including The Wittliff Collections at Texas State University and the CENTER Image Library and Archive in Santa Fe. Her work has been recognized by the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards, the International Photography Awards, and LensCulture.

Her first monograph, Where the Ocean Drinks the Sky (PUSH, 2021), was followed by Daydream in Memories of Youth (Generation Press, 2024), which received an Honorable Mention from the Paris Photo Prize and the International Photography Awards.

Her third book, Atlas of Invisible Things (Kehrer Verlag, 2026), brings together 39 photographs made on several trips to Marrakesh and Essaouira in Morocco with a prose narrative built around Soul, a fictional character. The idea for Soul came to her during a trip with The Raw Society. She decided early that the photographs and the words should not explain each other, and the images are straight out of the camera.
