AI (artificial intelligence) is computer technology that performs tasks that normally need human intelligence, such as recognizing objects or making decisions. Machine learning is one type of AI, and deep learning is a type of machine learning. They are not the same thing as AI itself.
In photography, AI is used for subject and eye detection in autofocus, scene recognition, noise reduction, automatic editing and selecting parts of an image. Generative AI can also create images from text descriptions. This raises questions about authorship and what counts as a photograph.
