Back-button focus

A camera setup in which autofocus is started by a button on the back of the camera instead of by half-pressing the shutter button.

It separates focusing from taking the picture. The photographer can lock focus and recompose, or keep tracking a moving subject, without the camera refocusing at every shutter press. It is popular in sports, wildlife and wedding photography.
