A German school of art, design and architecture that existed from 1919 to 1933, in Weimar, Dessau and finally Berlin. It was founded by Walter Gropius and closed under pressure from the Nazis.
Photography became important there through László Moholy-Nagy, who taught at the Bauhaus from 1923 to 1928, and later through a photography class led by Walter Peterhans. Bauhaus photography used unusual angles, close-ups and photograms. See also New Vision.
