Color space

A defined range of colors and a system for describing them with numbers. A color space tells devices exactly which color each value means, so that an image looks the same on a camera, a screen and a printer. Common color spaces in photography are sRGB, the standard for the web, and Adobe RGB, which includes more colors and is often used for printing. ProPhoto RGB is even larger. The range of colors in a color space is called its gamut.
