A focusing aid shown on a camera's rear screen or electronic viewfinder. The camera finds the edges in the image with the highest contrast, which are the parts that are in sharp focus. It then marks them with a bright color, such as red, yellow or white. As you turn the focus ring, the colored outline moves through the scene. Focus peaking is most useful for manual focus and for adapted lenses.
