Gamma is a French photojournalism agency founded in Paris in 1966 by Raymond Depardon, Hubert Henrotte, Hugues Vassal and Léonard de Raemy. It covered news, politics and world events and became one of the leading Paris agencies, alongside Sygma and Sipa.
In 2009 its parent company, Eyedea, ran into serious financial trouble. In 2010 its former director François Lochon bought it, and it continued as Gamma-Rapho, which also holds the archive of the Rapho agency. In photography, "gamma" also has a technical meaning: a measure of contrast in film development and in how screens display tones.
