Melissa O’Shaughnessy
Melissa O’Shaughnessy is a New York City–based street photographer born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and trained in journalism and art history. She took up photography later in life and has spent more than a decade walking the city, observing and photographing its crowds and fleeting moments with a curious, humanist eye. Her work has been shown internationally and appears in several major street photography anthologies, including Bystander: A History of Street Photography and Women Street Photographers. She is a member of the collective UP Photographers, and her first monograph, Perfect Strangers: New York City Street Photographs, was published by Aperture with an introduction by Joel Meyerowitz, bringing together years of her daily work on the city’s sidewalks and avenues.
