About Photography Is Under Reconstruction for the Next Two Weeks

About Photography is under reconstruction for the next two weeks.

Hi, it's Martin!

I am launching Photopedia 2.0, and while I do it, I will update the live website page by page. During this time, some pages may look unfinished, a layout may change while you read, or a link may not work yet. I am sorry for the inconvenience. Everything should be finished within two weeks.

What is Photopedia 2.0?

Over the years, I have published hundreds of interviews, book features, photo essays and photographer profiles. Photopedia 2.0 brings all of this together. It takes the information I already have on the site, from my interviews, books and profiles, and presents it in a clearer way. You will be able to see how photographers, books and ideas connect, and find your way through the archive more easily.

What is changing

  • Photographer profiles get a new design, with key facts, a portrait, links to the photographer's own work and all my articles about them in one place.

  • A timeline will show photographers by decade, so you can see who was working at the same time.

  • Side by side will let you compare two photographers and see whether they could have met.

  • A map of influences will show who learned from whom, always with a source.

  • You will be able to browse photographers by the region they come from.

  • Interviews and book features get a new header. It shows the photographer, the book or series and the publisher at a glance, and takes you straight to each part of the article.

  • Short video clips from my live interviews appear next to the answers they belong to.

  • Photography terms in articles will link to short, clear explanations in the Dictionary.

  • Photo essays get a simpler way for you to share your own work with me.

A thank-you for your patience

As a small thank-you, here is a 30-day free trial of Photography, Reconsidered, my newsletter where I return to ideas and stories from my conversations with photographers. The offer is valid until the reconstruction is finished.

Thank you for reading About Photography and for staying with me while I rebuild it. If something on the site looks broken for longer than a day, please let me know in the comments below.
