About Perimeter Books

Perimeter Books, founded in Melbourne in 2011, has grown into one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary art and photography publishing. It operates as a specialised bookstore, a publishing house under the imprint Perimeter Editions, and a distributor through Perimeter Distribution. Since launching its first titles in 2012, Perimeter Editions has published more than a hundred books, often in close collaboration with photographers, artists, and writers, with an emphasis on critical and formally sensitive projects. Alongside publishing, Perimeter hosts exhibitions, talks, workshops, and book launches, and co-presents major art book fairs such as Same Page in Melbourne and Volume: Another Art Book Fair in Sydney with Printed Matter Inc. and Artspace.

Beyond publishing, Perimeter’s distribution arm represents leading independent presses from around the world, including acting as the Australia–New Zealand agent for Amsterdam-based Idea Books. The organisation also curates “capsules” of independent books for galleries, institutions, and brands across Australia, with past partners ranging from the Centre for Contemporary Photography to COMME des GARÇONS. Guided by co-directors Justine Ellis and Dan Rule, Perimeter has become a vital hub where contemporary photography and publishing meet, extending its influence from its Melbourne headquarters to readers, collectors, and institutions worldwide.
