Donna Wesley Spencer is a fine art photographer. She lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Her life as a birder led to her work on wildlife preservation.
She studied photography at the Evanston Art Center while she lived in the Chicago area. She also took workshops and studied at the Penland School of Craft. She is a founding member of Perspective Gallery in Evanston, Illinois.
Her book Recover & Release: Rescuing Native Wildlife was published by Daylight Books. It grew from two years of visits to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centers. The book has 50 photographs and comments from the people who care for the animals. It has an essay by Dr. Gregory A. Lewbart and a foreword by Nancy McCrary.
Spencer also makes platinum palladium prints and prints on vellum over gold leaf. In 2026 she showed hand-printed work from the book project in Shared Space at Craven Allen Gallery in Durham, North Carolina.
