Igor Shutov was born in Russia in 1984. He lives and works in Tallinn, Estonia.
He sees himself as an observer more than a participant in what happens around him. His photography grew out of walking and careful attention to everyday urban space. He does not photograph people directly. Their presence appears in traces of use, objects and altered surfaces.
His project Beyond Places was made mostly in Tallinn between 2021 and 2025. It looks at courtyards, back streets and quiet corners that most people only pass through.
In 2021 he received honorable mentions from the Minimalist Photography Awards and from the IPA in the Fine Art, Minimal category.
