Robert LeBlanc is a photographer and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. He grew up in a small town in Montana and moved to Los Angeles in 2011. He is self-taught. He first learned photography by documenting life on a skateboard. His debut book, Unlawful Conduct (2015), was a limited edition that sold out before release.
He builds trust with his subjects over years. They include hotshot firefighters, hurricane survivors and Holiness snake handlers. His books include Moon Dust (2021) about wildfire crews in Montana and California, Elk (2024) and Tin Lizards (2025). His books are sold at MOCA Los Angeles, MoMA PS1 and the Frye Art Museum.
His book Gloryland was published by Setanta Books in 2023. It has 378 pages. It tells the story of the last serpent-handling church in West Virginia. He talked with the congregation for months before they invited him. He says he has spent about seven years with them. The book is in the permanent collection of the Getty Research Institute Library.
