Jonathan Jasberg is an American street and documentary photographer. Since 2010 he has lived a nomadic life outside the United States, travelling full-time as an independent photographer with one camera and a carry-on suitcase. He grew up in Arizona, earned a degree in computer science and worked as a software developer, with photography on the side. In 2020, during the COVID pandemic, he left software and turned to photography full-time.
His work has been published in National Geographic Traveler, New York Magazine, LFI and GEO. He has received more than 40 international photography awards, among them Author of the Year at the Urban Photo Awards 2022 in Trieste and first place for a single image at the LensCulture Street Photography Awards 2023. He works with Leica cameras and a 28mm lens, and leads street photography workshops around the world. He returns to Japan once or twice a year and has long-term projects in Egypt, India and Mexico.
His book Cairo: A Beautiful Thing Is Never Perfect (Eyeshot, 2024) comes from a multi-year project in Cairo, which won first place in the series category of the Eyeshot Open Call 2022. The book opens with a view of the pyramids and then moves into neighborhoods untouched by tourism.
