Keizo Motoda

Keizo Motoda is a Japanese street photographer. He was born in Osaka in 1971. He studied economics at Momoyama Gakuin University and graduated in 1994. In 1995 he enrolled at Visual Arts College Osaka. While still a student, he was shortlisted for the 33rd Taiyo Award.

For the Osaka Shimbun newspaper he made a column called ON THE STREET, with a photograph and a text about a person he met on the street. This work became the origin of his style. Since then he has photographed people and scenes on the streets. He worked in Tokyo for many years and now lives in Zushi, Kanagawa Prefecture. His books include Blue Water (2001), Sunday Harajuku (2012), Todoroki (2019) and Good Morning from Nagisa-Bridge (Fugensha, 2021).

His book Short Hope was published by Fugensha in 2026. It has 192 pages. It is a black and white photobook about Kamagasaki, also known as the Airin district, in Osaka. He shot it on black and white film between 2022 and 2024, travelling to Osaka by overnight bus from his home. He photographed the people, streets, parks, signs and shared public life of the neighborhood.
