Stefan Draschan

Stefan Draschan is an Austrian photographer, bicycle activist and flaneur. He was born in Austria in 1979. He moves between Vienna, Berlin, Naples and Paris.

In People Matching Artworks, he photographs museum visitors in moments when something lines up, such as a color, a gesture or a connection with a painting. His other series include People Sleeping in Museums, People Touching Artworks, Cars Matching Homes and Bicycle Culture.

Draschan started to look for these matches on purpose in spring 2015. This came after a few similar situations in Munich and Vienna. He names Alécio de Andrade as an early influence.

Hatje Cantz published his book Coincidences at Museums in 2019. His next book, Double Take, followed from the same publisher in June 2024. It has 128 pages. It shows his staged series for the first time. It also has a selection from Cars Matching Homes and new work from his museum series.
