Yoichi Yoshinaga

Yoichi Yoshinaga was born in 1977 in Tokyo. After graduating from the Department of Photography at Osaka University of Arts, Yoshinaga worked at an architectural model company and then joined an aerial photography company. Yoshinaga later worked as a freelance aerial photographer.

Later Yoshinaga began to photograph railways from the air. The first solo exhibition, Sora-Tetsu, took place in 2011. The photographs are made from small planes and helicopters, not drones. Yoshinaga also photographs railway scenes and ruins with 6x6 and 4x5 cameras.

Tokyo Whirl (Fugensha, 2025) brings together 15 years of aerial photographs of Tokyo. It shows railways, streets, buildings and the quiet presence of people in the city.
