About Charcoal Press
Charcoal Press is an independent photobook publisher founded by Jesse Lenz, serving as the publishing imprint of Charcoal Book Club. Based in the United States, Charcoal Press is dedicated to producing high-quality, limited-edition photobooks that explore themes of nature, family, and the human experience.
Jesse Lenz, a self-taught photographer and multidisciplinary artist, established Charcoal Press to provide a platform for both his own work and that of other photographers. His notable publications include The Locusts (2020) and The Seraphim (2024), which are part of a planned seven-part series delving into life and death cycles on his rural Ohio farm.
Charcoal Press has also published works by other artists, such as Sealskin by Jeff Dworsky, a photographic narrative reflecting on life and loss on a small island in Maine, and Dormant Season by Erinn Springer, which captures the intergenerational bonds of rural America.
