A color filter used in black-and-white photography. It lets yellow light through and blocks some blue light. Because the sky is blue, it appears a little darker in the print, so white clouds stand out more clearly. A yellow filter also gives slightly more natural tones and contrast in landscapes. It is the mildest of the common filters for this purpose. Orange and red filters give a stronger effect. Landscape photographers using black-and-white film used yellow filters very often.
