Robin de Puy is a Dutch photographer and filmmaker, born in 1986, known for her portraits and long relationships with the people she photographs. She studied at the Fotoacademie Rotterdam and won the National Portrait Prize in 2013 and 2019. In 2015, she travelled across the United States by motorbike, making photographs later published in If This Is True, I’ll Never Have to Leave Home Again. Her work has been shown at the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht, Museum Hilversum, the Hague Museum of Photography, Stedelijk Museum Breda and Photoville in New York.
On that 2015 trip she saw a teenage boy cycling past in Ely, Nevada, and stopped to photograph him. Randy grew into a long-term series and a book (Hannibal Books, 2018), shown at the Bonnefantenmuseum the same year. Randy now makes photographs of his own. For AMERICAN (Hannibal Books, 2024), she travelled across the United States between 2022 and 2024 and brought photographs, film, audio and text together in 25 stories. She later placed some of the portraits on billboards along Route 50 in Nevada.
