Fine art photography

Photography made mainly as artistic expression, to be shown in galleries, museums and books, rather than for commercial or news purposes.

The idea that photography can be fine art was promoted by the Photo-Secession and later by straight photography. Fine art photographs are often sold as limited editions. See also conceptual art.
