An American company founded by George Eastman in Rochester, New York. Its first camera, the Kodak of 1888, came loaded with film for 100 pictures and was sent back to the factory for processing. Its slogan was "You press the button, we do the rest."
Kodak made photography available to everyone with cameras such as the Brownie (1900) and films such as Kodachrome and Tri-X. Kodak engineer Steven Sasson built an early digital camera in 1975, but the company was slow to move to digital and filed for bankruptcy protection in 2012. It still makes film today.
