Life magazine

An American magazine that became the leading photo magazine of the 20th century. Henry Luce relaunched Life as a weekly picture magazine in November 1936. The first cover showed a photograph of Fort Peck Dam by Margaret Bourke-White.

Life published the work of Alfred Eisenstaedt, Robert Capa, W. Eugene Smith, Gordon Parks and many others, and helped define the photo essay. The weekly stopped in 1972. It later returned as a monthly from 1978 to 2000.
