Provoke

A Japanese photography magazine published in three issues in 1968 and 1969. It was founded by Takuma Nakahira, Yutaka Takanashi, Kōji Taki and Takahiko Okada, and Daidō Moriyama joined from the second issue.

Provoke became known for the style called are, bure, boke: grainy, blurry and out of focus. The photographers wanted to break with conventional documentary and express the unstable mood of Japan at the time. The magazine was short-lived but very influential.
