Humanist photography

A style of photography that focused on everyday people, their dignity and their daily lives, often with warmth and humor. It is especially linked to France from the 1930s to the 1950s.

Leading figures included Robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis, Izis and Édouard Boubat. The exhibition The Family of Man (1955) brought a humanist message to a world audience. See also street photography.
