A term for American photographers of the 1970s who used color film for artistic work, at a time when serious art photography was mostly black and white.
A key moment was William Eggleston's exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1976. Stephen Shore and Joel Meyerowitz are also often named. Earlier color work by Saul Leiter and Ernst Haas was later recognized as part of this history.
