San Francisco Art Institute

An art school in San Francisco, founded in 1871. It was one of the oldest art schools in the United States. In 1946 Ansel Adams started its photography department, one of the first in the country to teach photography as a fine art. Teachers there included Minor White and Imogen Cunningham.

The school had serious money problems for many years. It stopped offering degrees and closed in 2022.
