Sarah Mei Herman

Sarah Mei Herman is a Dutch photographer born in Amsterdam in 1980 who explores intimacy, relationships, and the subtle tensions that shape how people connect with one another. She holds a BA in Photography from the Royal Academy of Fine Art in The Hague and an MA in Fine Art Photography from the Royal College of Art in London.

Her work often follows subjects over many years, examining the vulnerability of transitional life stages and the complex space between friendship, family, and love. Herman’s photographs have been shown in major international venues including The National Portrait Gallery in London, Le Château d’Eau in Toulouse, the Benaki Museum in Athens, Photo Elysée in Lausanne, and the JIMEI x ARLES International Photo Festival.

She has received several grants and awards, and her projects have been included in public and private collections. Herman’s ongoing commitment to deep, prolonged engagement with her subjects is visible across bodies of work spanning decades, from familial portraits to investigations of community, history, and identity.
