Anna and Jordan
Anna and Jordan Rathkopf are a husband-and-wife photography team whose work often delves into deeply personal and raw storytelling. Their most notable project, HER2: The Diagnosed, The Caregiver, and Their Son, documents their journey following Anna’s diagnosis at age 37 with an aggressive form of breast cancer. This project is a collaborative visual narrative that explores the intertwining of shared survival, parallel traumas, and layers of grief and joy within their family.
The photographs, captured at home, in hospital settings, and with their son, provide an intimate look at how a chronic illness affects relationships, parenting, marriage, and everyday life. The Rathkopfs’ project seeks to illuminate the complexities of survivorship, resilience, and vulnerability through a dual perspective, offering viewers an authentic portrayal of these challenges.
They received the 2024 Photographic Achievement Award from the International Photographic Council at the United Nations, underscoring the impact and significance of their work. (Website, @annarathkopf, @jordanrathkopf).
