Laurent Kronental
Laurent Kronental is a French photographer based in Paris. Entirely self-taught, he first discovered photography during a stay in Beijing in 2008, where the scale of the city and its contrasts with everyday life sparked his lasting interest in the relationship between people and the built environment. Since then, his work has focused on themes of memory, aging, and architecture, often through long-term projects that combine portraits with urban landscapes. His series Souvenir d’un Futur (2011–2015) received the Bourse du Talent award in 2015 and brought him international recognition. He has exhibited in France and abroad, including at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Moscow International Biennale of Young Art, and the Seoul Lunar Photo Festival, and his images have been published in major outlets such as Le Monde, The Washington Post, and British Journal of Photography. Kronental continues to explore the passage of time and the traces it leaves on communities, using large-format photography to create images that balance documentary rigor with a quiet, poetic sensibility.
