Mac Stone

Mac Stone is a conservation photographer, filmmaker, and National Geographic Explorer whose work focuses on wetlands, swamps, and the wild places of the American Southeast. Raised in Gainesville, Florida, he grew up exploring springs, marshes, cypress forests, and the Everglades, places that later became the foundation of his photographic work. His images combine field biology, long-term observation, and visual storytelling to show the wildlife, water, and fragile ecosystems many people overlook.

In American Amazon, Stone brings together more than 20 years of work across the southeastern United States, connecting ancient forests, living waters, ghost orchids, freshwater species, and threatened wetlands into one larger story. His work has also contributed to scientific knowledge, including research around ghost orchid pollination, and is part of a wider conservation effort that includes an IMAX film and PBS Nature series.
