Mirjana Vrbaški
Mirjana Vrbaški is a Serbian-Canadian visual artist whose work centers on themes of identity, human presence, intuition, and the subtle relationship between people and their environments. She is best known for her refined photographic portraits and meditative landscapes, often described as contemplative, restrained, and emotionally resonant.
Born in 1978 in Montreal and raised in Belgrade, Vrbaški’s personal experience of cultural displacement has deeply informed her artistic voice. She holds a degree in English Literature from the University of Guelph in Canada and later earned a BA in Photographic Studies from the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague. Since 2011, she has been based in Berlin, where she continues to develop long-form photographic projects that merge visual clarity with emotional depth.
Vrbaški’s work has been exhibited internationally in institutions including Fotomuseum Den Haag, Kunsthal Rotterdam, the National Portrait Gallery in London, and the Royal Academy of Art in Brussels. Her images are part of several public and private collections, including the National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection.
Across her practice, Vrbaški resists conventional storytelling in favor of intuitive image-making, often allowing her work to evolve without predetermined concepts. Her process prioritizes trust, silence, and the capacity to remain open to the unknown. This approach gives her photographs their quiet intensity and lasting impact. (Website, Instagram, Facebook)
