Pierpaolo Mittica
Pierpaolo Mittica is an Italian humanist photographer and filmmaker known for long-term documentary work on environmental and social issues. He graduated from the Masters Program in conservation, technique, and history of photography at CRAF in Italy, where he studied with influential figures such as Charles-Henri Favrod and Walter Rosenblum. His photographs have been shown internationally and are held in major collections including the Chernobyl National Museum in Ukraine, the Fotografiska Museum in Sweden, and the J. Paul Getty Museum in the United States.
Over his career he has published and exhibited projects on places affected by disaster and contamination, from the Balkans to Fukushima and Chernobyl. His book Chernobyl is the result of decades of work in the exclusion zone, documenting the people who live and work there and challenging common ideas about what that place really is.
