Ruth Kaplan

Ruth Kaplan is a Canadian documentary photographer based in Toronto whose work explores how people move through shared spaces, rituals, and moments of transition.

Her long-term projects focus on themes such as communal bathing, spirituality, and migration, often observing how individuals behave within larger social systems. Working across photography and video, she builds layered narratives through time, repetition, and close attention to everyday detail.

Kaplan has exhibited internationally, received numerous grants and awards, and her work is held in major public collections. She is also a professor of photography in Toronto, where she continues to develop her practice alongside teaching. (Website)
