Sean Kernan

Sean Kernan is an American photographer, writer, filmmaker, and teacher who came to photography through theater and performance, after studying English at the University of Pennsylvania. He is known for work that blends atmosphere, memory, and narrative suggestion, and he has published several books including The Secret Books (with a text by Jorge Luis Borges), Among Trees (with Anthony Doerr), Looking Into the Light (on creativity), and In Stone (on sculptor Darrell Petit). 

Kernan’s photographs have been widely exhibited internationally, and his broader practice includes making media for performance projects and directing documentary films such as The Visitor, The Kampala Boxing Club, and Crow Stories.
