Stephen Thomas Mccoy
Stephen Thomas Mccoy is a British documentary photographer based in Merseyside. He studied at Manchester Polytechnic before beginning a career that combines personal projects, commissioned work, and teaching.
Since the early 1980s, Mccoy has been known for his series Personal Space, humorous and carefully composed photographs of family life taken between 1980 and 1984. He also worked on Skelmersdale, a portrait of a new town shaped by social and economic change. Together with Stephanie Wynne, he has produced long-term projects such as Triangulation, exploring mapping points across Britain, and many commissions for public and commercial clients.
His work has been exhibited at institutions including the Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool, and most recently the Martin Parr Foundation in Bristol. Mccoy’s photographs often focus on the overlooked and ordinary, using humor and precision to move beyond surface appearances and capture deeper connections between people and place. (Website, Twitter)
